SIHH 2017: Girard-Perregaux Laureato 34 Watch Review

By: B.A Morley, Editor, TheWatchIndex.com

SIHH 2017: Girard-Perregaux has designed and developed a new ladies watch to add to their Laureato collection. With its slim size and diamond-studded bezel, this Laureato 34 is sure to turn heads. Although this is a ladies watch in a traditionally masculine collection, the watch still features signature Laureato designs. The signature designs include the octagonal bezel, the Clou de Paris dial, the streamlined bracelet/case connection, and the alternating polished and satin-brushed finishing.

The Laureato 34 is an incredibly versatile watch that can be worn in nearly any situation. It can be worn as an everyday watch or it can suit a dressier occasion such as a business meeting or date night. Although the case shape is sporty, the diamonds and expert finishings will take this watch to the next level.

Girard-Perreguax focuses on the small details by lining the 56-brilliant cut diamonds by height, tapering in between the eight points of the octagon. The dial features a Clou de Paris hobnail design, baton-style hands with applied luminescence, and a date window at 3 o’clock.

At the heart of this watch lies Girard-Perregaux’s GP013100 quartz movement. Although it may seem as if the brand takes the easy way out by giving the ladies model a quartz movement, this design choice is backed up by history. Girard-Perregaux was one of the first brands to adopt the quartz movement in the 1970s, and the original 1975 Laureato was powered by a quartz movement. It wasn’t until 1995 that Girard-Perregaux offered a Laureato with a mechanical movement. Additionally in 1978, Girard-Perregaux was the first company to develop a quartz movement small enough for ladies’ watches.

This watch comes in three different varieties, including satin-brushed steel, 18k rose gold, and a combination of rose gold and steel. Depending on which material you choose, the dial color will also change. The Clou de Paris dial comes in three colors: slate gray, silver-tone, and blue.

For each of these variations the buyer can choose between an integrated metal bracelet or a leather strap. The bracelet alternates between polished and satin-brushed surfaces, and it comes in steel, rose gold, or a combination of rose gold and steel. The leather strap is available in white, blue, anthracite gray, or black alligator leather with topstitching. If the buyer chooses the leather strap, then they’ll also receive an additional rubber strap.
