Review: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, Now Featuring a Grey Ceramic Case
Blancpain first introduced their new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe at the 2016 Baselworld. Although it isn’t Blancpain’s most complicated watch, its high-end appearance ensures its popularity.
The ceramic case has a brushed finished that resembles the warmth of brushed titanium, but this ceramic case is much lighter than a titanium case. It’s also highly durable and scratch resistant which is ideal since this sports watch is designed to withstand the elements.
While the ceramic case adds modernity, we believe the brilliant blue dial and blue ceramic insert takes this watch to the next level. The watch, depending on the light and the background, can appear to shimmer as a vibrant blue or darken to a deep navy. The indices and hands, filled with SuperLuminova, stand out against the blue background, making it incredibly easy to read the time.
This watch also includes the signature features from previous Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe watches. It’s a three-handed diving watch with a unidirectional bezel and the date window appears between 4 and 5 o’clock. The oversized indices and hands also connect this watch to its predecessors.
The manufacture-made 1315 caliber prioritizes function over form, and it has been used in several other of Blancpain’s dive watches. This automatic movement includes 227 components and a 120-hour power reserve. You can purchase this watch for 12,800 USD with the option of a blue NATO strap or sail canvas.
